“Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings.”
Psalm 33:2 English Standard Version

“Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises!”
Psalm 98:4 English Standard Version

I love music. I listen to a wide variety of genres, but classical music is special because I find it especially beautiful. I feel more emotion listening to Beethoven than most songs with lyrics (except hymns). Recently my wife and I went to see the Colorado Symphony Orchestra perform. It is fascinating to watch, and to listen, to talented musicians playing many different instruments, as they collaborate to make a most beautiful sound.

Music is a wonderful gift from God.  He gave it to us so that we may use it for His glory and praise. If you sometimes have trouble with prayer because you may not know what to pray about, or if you are easily distracted, pray by singing a hymn or a praise and worship song. If music helps you focus, play your favorite songs in the background while having your quiet time. Of course, you can listen to music (or play if you have that ability) as an expression of joy, thanksgiving, and praise to God.

I believe that if we are feeling stuck or even hardened emotionally, God, through music, can break through some of those barriers and bring us closer to Him through song and praise.

There is nothing more beautiful than the sound of praise, honor, and glory being lifted up in humble adoration of our Lord. Whether we are singing with our brothers and sisters in Christ at church, are at the symphony, or alone in our cars make a joyful noise before the Lord.

“Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen” The Doxology
