Not a Shred of Evidence

“I will never again remember
    their sins and lawless deeds.”

Hebrews 10:17 New Living Translation

For many, January is traditionally a month to clean out your files for a new year, and to prepare for the tax season ahead. Sales on filing cabinets, folders, and labels appear in ads this month, urging everyone to purge the non-essential papers and organize the ones that will be needed for April’s income tax returns.

With this comes a responsibility to keep our information safe from identity theft. Shredding is a big part of this process, taking personal information, that could be damaging in the wrong hands, and making it unrecognizable to anyone. Eventually it will be scattered in a landfill and left to decompose. Not a trace of our information will be found in the future.

Sin is like this. We accumulate sin every day, piling it up like a stack of papers. Our name is all over it, and God has read every word of it. The weight of sin drags us down and we just want to be rid of it.

There is great news! Because of Christ’s death, and resurrection, our sins are shredded when we ask for forgiveness, and even more!

For his unfailing love toward those who fear him
is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.
He has removed our sins as far from us
as the east is from the west.”

Psalm 103:11-13 New Living Translation

“For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.”
Hebrews 8:12 New Living Translation

Our God loves us, forgives us, and our sins vanish never to be remembered again!

“Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sins are put out of sight.”
Romans 4:7 New Living Translation
