Please Stay on the Path

Who are the adventurers out there? Personally, I am not much of one. There are probably a number of people out there who wouldn’t want to go on hikes, or nature walks, with me. You see, I’m the one pleading with the group not to stray away from the path. While everyone else is going off trail finding beautiful views, and things to climb, you can bet your bottom dollar that I am sitting right in the middle of the official path. Sometimes I wish I could bring myself to go off trail just once, and then I remember the signs that tell you to stay on the path. The people who put up those signs know what they’re talking about. Then my group comes back to tell me how amazing the view was, and that I’m missing out by not joining them.

No, I am not telling you that you are sinning by going off the trail, on a nature hike and that you need to stop (I wish I could bring myself to do that at times). However, the people that are in charge of those trails put those signs up for our safety. They know the land, the wildlife, and the risks about the area in which we are hiking. In our life of faith in Christ, there are times when we might think God is restricting our freedom, or withholding a good time from us. He isn’t. God wants us to live a most fulfilling life, in Him. Really, God knows better. He knows the trail inside and out. When we try and blaze our own trail in life God warns us of the dangers of walking away from Him, and He tells us which way we should go.

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 English Standard Version.

Not all paths lead to the same place. The one that leads to life is Jesus.
