PWTE Episode 010: Feeling Out of Place?

In this episode of the Praying With The Eyes podcast, Richelle Hecker and I talk about what it means to be a Christian community. We compare what relationships look like both inside and outside of the Christian community, and wrestle with the purpose of Christian community. In a world that struggles with community it is more important than ever that Christians strive to be that group of people that God’s grace calls us to be.

I’m excited that Richelle Hecker, mom and public speaker, will be joining me as co-host for a series of upcoming podcasts. I enjoy the depth of insight that she brings to each episode and look forward to working with her.

Let’s keep the conversation going. Please share your thoughts on this episode in the comments below.

For a more in-depth Bible study of the topic of community you might want to study Paul’s letter to the Ephesians. Christ, being the Head of the church, has brought together into community two very separate groups, Jews and Gentiles. God continues to tear down our dividing walls of hostility. This work of God continues to distinguish the Christian community.

  1. To get the ball rolling on comments, how about sharing your thoughts on this question, how do you expect your Christian friendships to be different from your non-Christian friendships?

  2. Why be apart of a Christian community? You talked about people feeling like they were not missed when they didn’t attend or were not apart of the group. Then you went on about selfishness. I agree with what you were saying and I have felt useless in a group of Christians before. Some times our talents, spiritual gifts aren’t used in the Church community. That doesn’t make us less of a Christian or not part of the Church comunity. Sometimes we see things and forget to act or step up.
I think it’s important to have people in a Church that can find the right kind of help when it’s needed . That’s a gift in and of itself. Also wanted to add that it says “when two or more of you pray…” That is were we get our strength ! Sometimes there is nothing to be done but commune with God because we are living in a sinful dieing world and it is painful.
My last thought. It talks in the Bible about giving in secret. I don’t think we allow ourselves to do that enough or promote it very much because of our selfishness. One of the best feelings in the world is giving to other people your talents, your gifts, your time, and necessities in life so we can all make it through this sinful, painful life.
