God is Communicating His Love.

This window is full of mixed messages.  Is the building for rent, for sale or for lease? Which number should I call to find out?  What kind of “shining moments” do all of those signs represent?

Communicating is hard.  In spite of e-mail, instant messaging, texting, Snapchat, Instagram and phones we frequently fail to communicate clearly or at all. Even at home among the people we love, messages conveyed are misconstrued.  We don’t always hear what is said or we choose not to believe it.  Sometimes we omit things from our memories simply because we didn’t like what we heard.

We often accuse God of not communicating with us.  We say He doesn’t answer our prayers.  We don’t know what He wants us to do.  God is communicating with us constantly; we don’t always listen. Sometimes we choose not to hear because we don’t like the answer. Frequently we miss what God is saying because what He is talking about is different from what we want Him to talk about.  Other times we’re too busy to hear Him.

God communicates clearly in His Word.  The main message throughout is how much He loves us.  How many different ways must He express Himself before we hear it?

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” Romans 5:8 New American Standard Bible

Is the life and death of Jesus Christ not a big enough sign for us? How often must He demonstrate His love before we believe Him? He forgives us repeatedly and gives us opportunities to begin again.  He waits patiently for those who deny Him to be changed and receive life.  He made the ultimate sacrifice so that we could be with Him.  What more communication do you need? If you hear nothing else hear this, God loves you no matter what.  His love for you is constant, unconditional and unmerited.  We have done nothing to deserve His love and yet we have it, fully expressed to us.  We don’t need any more signs.
