Scientists have determined that the V-shaped formation that birds use when migrating serves two important purposes. First, it conserves their energy. Each bird flies slightly above the bird in front of him, resulting in a reduction of wind resistance. The birds take turns being in the front, falling back when they get tired. They can fly for a long time before they must stop for rest. The second benefit to the V formation is that it is easier to keep track of every bird in the group, and it helps them communicate with one another.

“So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.”
1 Thessalonians 5:11 New Living Translation

“Be joyful. Grow to maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you.”
2 Corinthians 13:11 New Living Translation

As a flock of believers in Christ we also fly in a special formation. Our journey is long and hard. We must encourage each other to fly strong while leading, caring deeply for one another and insuring that Christ is always our guide. But we can’t do it alone. We are stronger when we fly together. When one becomes tired another takes his place at the front, leading through the day’s heat, wind and storms of life. As we fly together, trusting in the Lord for our strength, we help all of us reach our journey’s end in Christ.

” But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:31 New Living Translation
