Unmuted Praise

Keeping the rocks silent.

“When He came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of  Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:
‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!’ Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, ‘Teacher, rebuke your disciples!’
‘I tell you,’ He replied, if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.’”
Luke 19:37-40

The beauty of this rock silently declares the majesty of its Maker. How strange would it be if suddenly it began shouting out God’s praise?! Rocks were not created to use words to praise Him; that’s our privilege as image bearers of God.

God is working everyday in a million ways, but it is up to us to keep our eyes sharp to notice and point out His goodness. The enemy knows that when we magnify God’s works we are empowered to boldly pray and move in this world with confidence in God’s power. So the enemy feeds us lies to get us to put the mute button on our praises.

“That wasn’t really God. It was just chance.”
“If you give God the credit, you’ll sound naive.”
“Don’t say ‘God will be faithful.’ You’ll look foolish when your plans fail.”

In this world our ears are constantly filled with bad news and our hearts bear innumerable sorrows. Shining a light on God’s hand in it all gives the world hope, helps our hearts to persevere, and gives God the credit He deserves.

Oh, how we need to hear of His hand at work in this world and in our lives. Let’s keep the mute button off and joyfully praise God in loud voices for all the miracles we have seen. What a privilege to keep the rocks silent another day!
