A Knight’s Tale

A Champion Comes to Fight!

“Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war.”

Revelation 19:11 English Standard Version

My family and I recently attended a joust at the Colorado Renaissance Festival.  I must admit that I love the pomp and circumstance of it all!  Knights at these events radiate honor, nobility, chivalry, duty and love of king and country.  Having been part of a military family, I always sense a kindred spirit in others who fight for justice and truth:  those who stand in harm’s way for those who cannot defend themselves.

RenaissanceManSome people envision Christ as a shepherd holding a lamb; as a tiny innocent baby lying in a manger; or in agony on the cross.  When I think of Jesus, I see a champion who has come to fight for me and all of those who came before and will come after.  Martin Luther also used this imagery in his famous battle hymn, A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.

With all the bad news and uncertainty in this world, and through all of my own personal struggles, it is my comfort and reassurance to know that Christ is on my side.  He has the ultimate victory over death and the enemy! Though the horse in this photo is not white, it encourages and reminds me that Christ is a true crusader for justice, war and peace!

You may be going through something that makes you feel as if no one is in your corner to take up the cross on your behalf.  This day, I pray that you take heart and courage knowing that you are freed by His power and might, and that you have an absolute definitive champion in Christ.  He fights for you daily and will never leave your side!
