Fleeting Joys

Treasured Moments.

As we played on the lake shore with the resident sand pipers nearby, signs of life, both large and small, were embossed into the sand. These tiny impressions brought me joy with the little bird path carefully trod around my daughter’s footprints. My girl vacated this space just long enough for the small creature to take a turnabout. These simple, delicate memories were long ago erased by the waters they were born beside.

I have tended to believe that God can only be bothered with the big things and that small moments don’t matter in eternity. But isn’t the heart of the Father big enough to treasure every fleeting joy? Could this moment, so simple and passing, bring joy to the heart of the Father? It must be so. Just listen to the attention to details these verses convey.

“Record my misery; list my tears on your scroll—are they not in your record?” Psalm 56:8

“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.  Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
Luke 12:6-7 New International Version

These verses are addressing bigger heartaches, but if God records such details as the hairs on our head, the sparrows that fall, and tears we shed, then wouldn’t He hold every joy as well? It makes me wonder if He has a memory book full of little moments He’s delighted in with us. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised.

“You make known to me the path of life;
    you will fill me with joy in your presence,
    with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
Psalm 16:11 New International Version

I pray this day that you may enjoy simple moments at the right hand of your Daddy who delights in sharing little joys with you. Though they may be fleeting, they are treasured. You are treasured.
