You’re His Favorite.

Summer is already mellowing here in Colorado and there are several apple trees laden with apples ripe for the picking. While enjoying the beauty of this tree, this verse came to mind . . .

“Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings . . .”
Psalm 17:8 New International Version

To be the apple of someone’s eye means to be favored above all others in their sight. It seems a pretty bold prayer to pray for God to keep you as the “apple of His eye”, doesn’t it? Yet, I suppose, if anyone could pray that, it might of been David, the author of this Psalm, who was said to be a man after God’s own heart. But would any of us dare to ask God for such favor?

My husband’s mother used to whisper into his ear that he was her favorite. Years later, as his other four siblings and him talked, they discovered she used to whisper that to all of them. And all of them believe she meant it with each of them.

Would God be upset by our prayers for favor? No. We would only be praying for something we already have. He has given us favor through Christ Who is the true Apple of the Father’s Eye. Now, because of Christ, each of us are His favorite. We are the Apple of His eye in Christ Jesus.

Father, this day, may we remember that we are the Apple of Your Eye. May we seek Your face boldly as your favorites and ask You for what we need. Amen.
