Waiting

Frozen in Time.

Do you ever feel like this guy?  Not the one in the hat, but the statue next to him.  There he sits with his briefcase open, focused on his work as the world keeps on going. People walk by without taking any notice of him, and even the man sitting next to him seems rather oblivious to his existence. Everyone else is vibrant and colorful, moving intentionally towards something,  and he sits there, staring into his briefcase, frozen in time.  Do you feel like you’re just going through the motions of each day wondering what your actual purpose is? Are you waiting for something to happen?sam_2084-2

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.”

2 Peter 3:8 New International Version

We respond, “Yes Lord, but I don’t have a thousand years to wait!”

God, of course, understands this. In the passage from Peter he is speaking about waiting for the end of time. Our God is willing to wait as long as it is necessary for us to repent and return to Him. Peter is reminding us that we worship a very patient God. This is to our benefit! God is also aware of who we are and how short our time is,

“For He Himself knows our frame;
 He is mindful that we are but dust.
“As for man, his days are like grass;
As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
 When the wind has passed over it, it is no more,
and its place acknowledges it no longer.”

Psalm 103: 14-16 New American Standard Version

Do not worry. Your LORD knows that your time here on earth is short. He will not make you wait longer than is absolutely necessary to fulfill His plan. You may feel like you have no purpose, but remember that God is working while you’re waiting.  Your job is to worship Him in the place you are now, and trust Him to move you into the next thing at the exact right moment.
