Living in Unity

“I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all”.
Ephesians 4:1-6 English Standard Version

sam_0185It breaks my heart when my children argue. I know people who have become estranged from their siblings and I don’t want that to be a legacy for my own children. God created them as incredibly unique persons with different tastes, opinions, feelings, hopes and talents. These differences can either be used as a wedge Satan drives between them or as an amazing assortment of gifts, which when used together bring God glory.

Today is Election Day in the United States. Many have already voted and many are still headed to the polls. This nation is immensely divided. Some are fearful of what will happen to our nation depending on who’s elected, and some are just relieved that this election cycle will soon be over.

However you are feeling about this election, I encourage you to focus on what your Heavenly Father says is important. He knows He created His children with unique sets of gifts. It grieves our Father when we allow the things of this world to drive a wedge between us. We are His children and it is His desire that we are in unity with Him and each other. When we love one another and work together we bring Him glory.

Christ prayed that we would be one even as He and the Father are one so that the world may believe that the Father sent Him and that He loves them. This election is an opportunity for God’s children to demonstrate His love to one another and to the world. Stop arguing,  forgive, and then come together for His glory.
