“For my father and my mother have forsaken me,
but the Lord will take me in.”
Psalm 27:10 English Standard Version

This is Rizzo, the newest canine addition to our family.

We adopted Rizzo from Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies in Denver, Colorado. He was one of eight puppies born to an abandoned one-year-old Golden Retriever/Australian Shepherd mix. Not one of the puppies in the litter looks the same. The father’s breed is unknown.

Rizzo was originally adopted in December, but was returned three weeks later because the couple feared the puppy would eventually be too big for their RV travels. To our delight, Rizzo was adoptable again!

Many have asked what breed Rizzo’s father is, as he has huge feet, darker coloring, a curled tail, Australian Shepherd markings, coarse fur, and weighed 35 lbs. at three months.  We have decided not to spend our time or money to run tests on his heritage. We just love him for the sweet mutt he is.

There are many people around the world (myself included) who come from a broken home, lived in foster care, are adopted, or do not know the identity of one of their parents. On the other hand, maybe you know your parents, but do not have a good relationship with one or both of them.  Maybe your parents are deceased.

You may feel alone, abandoned, and unworthy. Personal intimate relationships may also be difficult. We all seek unconditional love and acceptance, not always knowing where to turn to find it.

God has adopted us into His kingdom through His son Jesus Christ and will never forsake us, no matter who our earthly parents are or were. What a wonderful blessing to know that Abba, our true Father, loves us; He calls us by name and accepts us just as we are!

“So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.”
Galatians 4:7 English Standard Version
