Frozen with Fear

Trust your hero!

I wait.
Quietly. Trusting. Praising.

While the sea is not parted,
While the walls stand tall and firm,
While giants remain in the land,
While armies march toward us,
While the enemy believes he is winning.

Knowing that,

The sea will part,
The walls will crumble,
The giants will fall,
The armies will be defeated,
And the enemy will lose.

I wait.
Quietly. Trusting. Praising.

There have been times in my life when I have been struck with immense fear – the kind of fear that paralyzes. It amazes me how many times this happens directly after a time of deliverance. I know all of the things God has already done, but at that moment I cannot see Him, and I need immediate help. The fear comes from worrying that He is tired of rushing in to rescue me. Perhaps my God has reconsidered and decided I’m not really worth so much effort. It’s like this picture. I see the beautiful white horse waiting, but my knight in shining armor is missing. I don’t know when or if he’ll actually appear.

This happens to the Israelites as well. Directly after God uses ten plagues to release them from slavery in Egypt, while they are still carrying their easily acquired plunder, the Israelites see the Egyptian army pursuing them and they tremble in fear. Perhaps they are worried that God has changed His mind about them. They were lost, weak, and vulnerable. Moses encouraged them with these words,

“The LORD will fight for you; you need only be still.”
Exodus 14:4 New International Version

These words are difficult to obey when you’re watching danger closing in on you! How can we be still when everything in us is screaming, “run!”? We must remember that He has already won the biggest battle, and His faithfulness has been proven.

“And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war.”
Revelation 19:11 New American Standard Bible

Christ is your hero. He fought for you, and He will not abandon you now. Trust Him.
