The Best Excuse is to Have None

“For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities — his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.” Romans 1:20 New Living Translation

The title of this devotion is a quote from Dr. Ivan Panin, a Russian emigrant to the United States who converted from agnosticism to Christianity.

This photo was taken from the Shrine of the Sun at Cheyenne Mountain. My wife Latashia and I bought season passes to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo because we love to get out, walk around, and of course see all of the adorable (and not so adorable) animals that inhabit the zoo. We also wanted to travel up to the shrine, as we had never been there before. Awaiting us, upon arriving at the shrine, was to me one of the most spectacular views I had ever seen. You have the mountains from a unique angle to your left, the Broadmoor directly below, and the rest of the city and the plains off in the distance.

Seeing the diversity and brilliance in God’s creation walking throughout the zoo, and the breathtaking views from the shrine, leaves no doubt that this is the beauty of God’s creation. All you have to do is walk outside to be confronted with the indescribable beauty that God has set before our eyes. Although bad things happen plenty in the world, all the good and all the beauty is a gift from God. We are so blessed to have been given the opportunity to experience God’s great creation.

When we are confronted by our culture, we are quickly told that the world, including ourselves, just came about by accident. We are told that God has nothing to do with how our lives came about. However, we can see clearly through all of the intricacies of our world that this is the handiwork of the almighty God.

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” Psalm 19:1 English Standard Version
