“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10 English Standard Version.
I am generally not one to take risks. I have never broken a bone and would love for it to stay that way. I have a fear of heights, and if I doubt the safety of certain activities or events, I tend to shy away more often than not.
I will not try to convince you (or myself for that matter) to take more risks or to be more adventurous. Wise decision making is always advised! However, this is a message that some need to hear, including myself. The photo to the left was taken in the summer, of 2015, at a zip lining course in Vail. That summer I was a camp counselor. A member of the church we were visiting that week was the owner of the zip lining course, and offered our entire staff to zip line for free. I was very hesitant and decided that I would not be zip lining. A co-counselor of mine (now my wife) convinced me not to miss out on this amazing opportunity to zip line over the beautiful Vail Canyon. It is one of the most spectacular things I have ever done and the memories will stick with me forever.
Many times God asks us to do something, or even when reading in the Scriptures how God expects us to live, and we can be hesitant. Christ lets us know that following him, and living for him, will be an extraordinary challenge with many obstacles. Satan and his cohorts are constantly prying into our fears everyday trying to distract us from God’s purpose for our lives, that we might choose comfort instead. Christ did not come for us to live comfortably, but he did come that we may have the most fulfilling life anyone could ever imagine. It is not always easy, or what we expect, rest assured life lived in Christ is the greatest adventure you will ever embark upon.
