Big Shoes to Fill

Falling is not an option.

“Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.”
Psalm 37:24 New Living Translation

If we put these giant shoes on, most of us wouldn’t be able to take very many steps, by ourselves, before we would fall down. They are just too big for our feet to walk in without someone holding us up.

God has a unique plan for each one of us. He designed us to fulfill a role in His kingdom that no one else can fill. There are times when the calling He gives us seems impossible to accomplish without falling and failing, so we ask for a detailed map to become comfortable with the road ahead. However, then God says,

“The Lord directs our steps, so why try to understand everything along the way?”
Proverbs 20:24 New Living Translation

It’s a hard word to hear when we are afraid of what lies before us. So we take charge of the journey and begin planning our own path. Then God says,

“We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.”
Proverbs 16:9 New Living Translation

So we must trust Him to guide us through every step, to give us courage and faith along the way, just as He promised.

The Lord directs the steps of the godly.
He delights in every detail of their lives.
Though they stumble, they will never fall,
for the Lord holds them by the hand.”
Psalm 37:23-24 New Living Translation

We don’t need our own map, our own strategy, or our own path. We only need to know that He delights in the details of our lives and will never let us fall, even if we stumble! God gives us big shoes to fill, yes, but God plans, protects, and directs our steps along the road that He’s chosen for us. The one leading to eternity with Him.
